In translation from the French by Rumer Godden, and with illustrations by Jean Primrose, this promises to bridge that difficult gap of introducing a slender sheaf of exquisite verse to an attendant audience. There is nothing very profound about these poems, twenty seven of them, each a simple prayer to a loving God, offered from the Ark by the animals. There is a quiet reverence, a reflection. This is the most delightful book of prayers as considered through the thoughts of animals on the ark. The true nature of each animal is captured in a beautiful, often poignant picture. Cleverly translated and sweetly illustrated. I have bought four to give as presents. Children will love them and adults will be captivated by these lovely poems/5(21).

Reading this book gave me simple, pure and innocent joy. It contains some 27 prayers. All but one prayers are said by the animals in the ark of Noah who says the remaining one.

The prayers are said in the form of short poems and accompanied by appropriate illustrations/5. This book consists of a selection of poems, translated from the French by Rumer Godden, from "Le Mieux Aime" () and "Prieres dans l'Arche" () by the Benedictine nun Carmen Bernos de Gasztold.

It is an illustrated collection of poems, each a prayer by an animal in Noah's Ark. The poems are accompanied by beautiful illustrations/5(8). "Prayers from the Ark" are what Carmen imagined the animals in Noah's Ark (and Noah himself!) were praying for.

These poems brought Carmen renown, becoming a bestseller in Europe. "The Creatures' Choir" likewise have poet animals declaiming, but no longer in supplication/5. A very dear friend read this book to me back in the late 50s and I was enchanted by it. The prayers of the butterfly and the old horse always stuck with me.
